The cost of Mediation is dependent upon several factors, in particular: the number of parties, the amount claimed between the parties and whether the Mediation is to be time limited and, if so, the time that is allocated. Costs might be increased by the need to hire suitable rooms to hold the Mediation. Specialist Mediators can arrange a venue if required. It is difficult to estimate the length of time that a Mediation might take. As a guide, a dispute seldom takes less than 3 hours to resolve and document, however simple the issues might appear. At the other extreme, Mediations seldom take more than a day, although the day might last for more than 12 hours. Added to this a Mediator might spend considerable time preparing himself, including talking to the parties before the Mediation, on the telephone. We assume that a certain amount of preparation time will be necessary and this is included within the hours quoted i.e. there is no extra charge for the Mediator's preparation time. If you are seeking a cost estimate, we suggest that simple disputes for lower amounts might take 4 or 6 hours, although you can select less, and more complex ones might take 10 hours, possibly with some overtime. Overtime is charged at a higher rate so it pays not to underestimate the time to be taken.
