MILLENIUM TIME CAPSULE

Danehill, Sussex, England is part of a delightful group of villages, strung together along the North to South hills of central Sussex, on the western edge of The Ashdown Forest. The Parish of Danehill includes the settlements of Twyford and Chelwood Gate, to the North, and Furners Green to the South. The main church is that of All Saints, which is featured in the sunset on the home page.
The Parish has celebrated The Millennium in grand style, for a parish of about a thousand inhabitants. The centre of the village featured an enormous party to see in midnight of the new millennium, and households and partygoers met to watch a fireworks display. The day did not end there. The village is unique in the fact that The Prime Meridian used by navigators the world over to establish their longitudinal position, bisects the village. To find us on a map, the co-ordinates are:
N 51 02' E/W 000 00'
To celebrate both the start of a New Millennium and to mark The Prime Meridian, an obelisk was built on the meridian, in the village centre. On the 1st January 2000, the village received a visit from The Lord LT of Sussex, Admiral Sir Lindsay Bryson, who unveiled The Obelisk. Within is concealed a Time Capsule. Parishioners were invited to add their names to a record of those living to see these events.

On 1st May 2000, The Time Capsule in The Danehill Millennium Obelisk was sealed for one hundred years. Click >> HERE << to view the documents in the capsule!
