England's green and pleasant land welcomes visitors from around the world. The choice of accommodation is yours whether it is Bed and Breakfast, a five star hotel, a caravan or holiday park, what about a canal boat or a cottage in the country. Whichever chosen county the diversity of England is yours to savour. Oxon borders Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Northants. The river Thames, running through the University Town of Oxford provides each year the crews for the world famous boat race with its rival University of Cambridge along with an abundance of buildings and colleges of historical interest with its many churches, buildings and museums. Of the historical houses and gardens perhaps the most famous is Blenheim Palace at Woodstock, home of the Dukes of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The palace includes and Italian Garden, French water terraces pleasure grounds an arboretum and cascade all set in 2000 acres of parkland, landscaped by Capability Brown. It is well worth a visit to gardens only with its adventure playground, a butterfly house, a motor launch and a narrow-gauge railway. Blenheim Park has also an important wildlife site. Some other places to visit in Oxfordshire are the Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford, or the Cotswold Woollen Weavers showing the history of weaving and wool. At Didcot the power station offers a film and a tour lasting 1 ½ hours or at the Railway Centre the story of the golden age of the Great Western Railway is told. Original steam locomotives, a reconstructed station and a demonstration of the broad-gauge are all organised by the Great Western Society who regularly organise 'steam days'. There are many customs and events throughout the year and contact with the local Tourist board will inform you of where to find one to your taste.
