England green and pleasant land welcomes visitors from around the world. The choice of accommodation is yours whether it is Bed and Breakfast, a five star hotel, a caravan or holiday park, what about a canal boat or a cottage in the country. Whichever chosen county the diversity of England is yours to savour. The county of Leicestershire is not so well known as perhaps some of the other counties It lies in the centre of the country falling between Northants, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincoln while the tiny county of Rutland which regained its independence from the county in 1997 after re-organisation in 1974 lies to the east. West Leicestershire offers rolling countryside and although there are substantial industrial places, the small town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch can offer the remains of an old country house Calke Abbey and the remains of a medieval castle. In East Leicestershire there are a number of market towns and the friendly town of Market Harborough has several old buildings and an interesting museum. Open to the public the Calke Abbey Estate was taken over by the National Trust in 1981 and it has been left in its charming rather dishevelled state as the family who owned the property struggled after the economies of country estates declined after World II. Leicester on the River Soar is a modern city but is past is revealed with medieval and Roman artefacts from its days as a fortified town on the Fosse Way the road leading from Cirencester to Lincoln under the rule of Hadrian. Its centre is a modern Haymarket and its clock tower where seven streets meet a local vocal point and bringing the town together. So find your accommodation at 'A Place To Stay' | ||||||||||||||||
