England's green and pleasant land welcomes visitors from around the world. The choice of accommodation is yours whether it is Bed and Breakfast, a five star hotel, a caravan or holiday park, what about a canal boat or a cottage in the country. Whichever chosen county the diversity of England is yours to savour. The three main areas of Bedfordshire are North with the County town of Bedford, Mid with its connections with the writer John Bunyan and South with its historical connection with Henry VIII. Dunstable was the place where Archbishop Cranmer dissolved Henry's marriage with Catherine of Aragon in 1533 and Ampthill the place where Catherine stayed during the proceedings. Today Dunstable with Luton are known for their industry and commerce. Luton also has one of the largest collections of lace outside of London. Bedfordshire has a number of large houses of interest in the South Luton Hoo originally design by Robert Adams is set in 1500 acres of parkland landscaped by Capability Brown. The ruined Houghton House in Mid Bedfordshire was believed to be the inspiration for the House Beautiful in John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. Bunyan was born in the village of Elstow south of the attractive riverside County town of Bedford in the north of the County. Elstow contains many of the buildings written about in Pilgrim's Progress and visitors can have fun spotting these places. Other places of interest are the old airship hangars of Cardington, home of the R100 and R101 airships. For Garden lovers the romantic Swiss Garden in the rustic old village of Old Warden is well worth a visit while the Lodge at Sandy is headquarters of the RSBP. Whipsnade Zoo can be found to the south of the village of Whipsnade. With its silhouette landmark of a lion cut into the hillside advertising the country home of the Zoological Society of London and one of Europe's largest wildlife conservation centres specialising in breeding endangered species.
